12th Sunday / (Old Rite) III Sunday after Pentecost

Corpus Christi Procession - 3pm Today: After all the great Feasts of the year ranging from Christmas to Easter to Pentecost ending in the celebration of the sublime Trinity, we come to Corpus Christi (15th June in the Old Rite and 18th in the New Rite). In this feast we see the outpouring of the love of God for us in the Eucharist. The Manna of old kept the first people of God on their way through unexpected and bewildering terrains. Today we honour the Lord by the greatest procession of the year. Our First Communicants and those to be confirmed will lead the way, with accompanying trumpets and drum. Come and honour the Lord passing through your parish! Today the King of Kings comes through our own streets and we should be for at least some of it; walking with or waiting here the Lord. Processions have a meaning in that we walk together in the same direction. In other words it sums up our whole Christian life which we live with others and for others, always conscious of the direction of our lives which is of course the Kingdom of Heaven.

Next Weekend - Confirmations: Bishop Patrick Lynch will be here to confirm our 18 candidates at the 12.30 Mass. On Saturday we will have a preparation day starting at 11.30 & on Sunday, all candidates should be at St Bede’s school by 11.45 for the group photo.
Welcome to Fr Dominic Clovis:  who was ordained 2 weeks ago.  He will say a first Mass today at 11am and preach and give his first blessing after all Masses.  Fr Dominic was born in 1989 in Eltham, the 6th child of 10 (5th boy) and was baptised by Fr Hugh Thwaites and made his First Communion here at St Bede’s.  He went to St Mary’s and St Thomas More in Eltham and 6th form in Chislehurst.  At 18 he entered IVE (Institution of the Incarnate Word – the group who came to do our Mission week in 2015), studying in Italy.  He will now be placed in Edinburgh.  His Dad, Greg helps with marriage prep, and meetings with our First Communion parents and Confirmation candidates.  His Uncle, Fr Linus Clovis has often been here.

Welcome to Felipe Alanis: from Mexico, who is the President of International Federation of Una Voce.  At the shared lunch he will address us briefly.

Summer Fayre: St Bernadette School Friday 5-8pm: Every year our two schools come together to organise their annual summer Fayre. Please do come and support them. It is fun for all ages and we will put St Joseph’s statue out that day so that Our Lady will not allow him to get wet!

Youth Club Summer Round up: Sunday 9th July.  We will not meet until then and that will be it for the summer.

Corpus Christi / (Old Rite) II Sunday after Pentecost

Corpus Christi: Today (and last Thursday in the Old Rite) we celebrate the greatest of all the Sacraments. Everyday Mother Church offers to feed us with the Bread of Life, the medicine of immortality. As one of the greatest modern English authors says; ''Out of the darkness of my life, so much frustrated, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament.....There you will find romance, glory, honour, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves upon earth, and more than that: Death: by the divine paradox, that which ends life, and demands the surrender of all, and yet by the taste (or foretaste) of which alone can what you seek in your earthly relationships (love, faithfulness, joy) be maintained, or take on that complexion of reality, of eternal endurance, which every man's heart desires.'' (The Letters of J.R.R Tolkien, no. 43 to his son). May we pray for a greater devotion to the Blessed Eucharist!

Next Weekend: We have a Reunion Mass for our FHC families on Saturday 6pm. Then, the next day (Sunday 25th), our First Communicants & Confirmation candidates will all lead the Corpus Christi Procession starting at St Bernadette School at 3pm.

Annual Day for Life: Each year Day for Life provides an opportunity to reflect on the dignity of every human person, both young and old, and to pray for and support all life from conception to natural death.  This year’s Day for Life provides us with an opportunity to reflect, to pray and to offer practical and emotional support, especially for those who have lost a child and for who women who are anxious about their pregnancy.  In Pope Francis’ Angelus address on the Italian Day for Life in February, he said to the 1000’s gathered in St Peter’s Square, “May no one be left alone and may love defend the sense of life.” Citing the words of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, he continued: “Life is beauty, admire it.  Life is life, fight for it… Each life is sacred.”  The second collection at this weekend’s Masses enables the church to fun the Anscombe Bioethics Centre (formerly the Linacre Centre), as well as projects that seek to care for life at every stage and in every condition.  For more visit www.dayforlife.org

Welcome to Fr Krzysiek Bienczak: who was born in 1987 and has 4 brothers & 2 sisters.  He was ordained in May 2012 in the Diocese of Przemysl (same Diocese as Frs. Lukasz & Pawel) and has been assistant priest in parish in Wisoka & Zurawica.  He is currently studying Catechetic Theology at Lublin University, and will be with us until the end of July

Fr Pawel: is in Poland visiting his family following his exams.  He will be back in the parish on Wednesday / Thursday.

Special Sunday - Today at 11am Mass: The music is provided by Cantores Missae under the direction of Charles Finch:

  • Offertory – Sancta et immaculata virginitas (Morales);

The Guild of St Clare: is looking for new members.  We are a group of ladies (so far) who look after the vestments and altar linens of the Parish. We meet in the club rooms on the 3rd Saturday of each month after the 9am Mass.  Our next meeting is on 15th July.  We have all had to learn skills so help is available.  Come and see what we do and find out more.  All are welcome.  Susan Gollop

Federation of St Bede & St Bernadette School Summer Fayre: Every year our two schools come together to organise their annual summer Fayre. This year it will be Friday 30th June 5-8pm at St Bernadette School. Please do come and support them. It is fun for all ages and we will put St Joseph’s statue out that day so that Our Lady will not allow him to get wet!
