Happy New Year: Can you believe it – it is 2018!  Back in 1918 was the end of the First World War.  This was a devastatingly ugly conflict which resulted in one of the worst losses of life in the history of the world.  The powers then carved up the old empires which have had both good and bad effects ever since.
Our Blessed Lord said, “I have come that you may have life, and have it abundantly!”  Most of us admit that we do not enjoy abundant life.  Of course we live in a vale of tears, however there is so much pressure in the modern world that so often all the possibilities for living life to the full are squeezed out.  Therefore in this New Year, let us make four resolutions; 1. Some daily spiritual exercise (like following the Bible/Catechism daily reading guide).  2. Some daily physical exercise (gym, walking, swimming etc.) 3. Some daily emotional exercise (keeping up with friends, going out, doing things together) 4. Some daily intellectual exercise (reading, films, music etc).  Let us not be blind to the wonder of the sheer variety of gifts the Lord provides!  Fr Christopher B.

Tonight (Sunday) - New Years Eve: Fr Andrew will offer the Midnight Mass to see in the New Year 2018 after the “Te Deum” and Benediction.

Thank You: from your priests for the Christmas offerings, presents and cards. They are all much appreciated in a very busy time which is an onslaught for most of us.

Saturday - Feast of the Epiphany (Old Rite): There will be Latin Mass at 9am.  Fr Gabriel will bless the water afterwards.

Next Sunday - Eritrean Celebration:  We celebrate Christmas on 25th December but according to the old Julian calendar (which we gave up over 200 years ago) Christmas day is on 7th January.  The Eritreans along with the Ethiopians, Armenians and the Copts all keep this day.  Fr Kidane will come to say this special Mass for them at 12.30pm.

Crib offerings:  This year nominated charity for crib offerings is the ‘Catholic Children’s Society’. They deliver ‘ConnectEd’ school counselling services across the Diocese of Southwark to help children and families living in emotional and relational poverty as well as delivering the Southwark Crisis Fund to help those in immediate material need. (www.cathchild.org.uk).   Therefore this year we will split the offerings made equally between Good Counsel Network (whom we have sent to for many years) and Catholic Children’s Society.
