4th Sunday in Ordinary Time / (Old Rite) Septuagesima Sunday

Presentation / Purification: The feast of the Presentation of the Lord and the Purification of Our Lady marks the definitive end of the Christmas season. This day, also called Candlemas, could be described as the Christian festival of light.  The candles are blessed and we process with them lighted singing the words of Simeon: (the Nunc Dimittis) “At last all powerful Master you give leave your servant to go in peace, according to your promise. For my eyes, have seen your Salvation which you have prepared for all nations, the LIGHT to enlighten the Gentiles and give glory to Israel, your people.”
How easy it is for us to take for granted the light of Christ which we are privileged to possess. This light however is given us to share!
